Justin Tomlinson MP with Honda UK Apprentices
SMMT held its summer parliamentary reception in the House of Commons on 20 July. MPs, senior industry executives and stakeholder colleagues met apprentices from nine global companies that manufacture vehicles in the UK, to talk about their experiences and roles within the automotive industry. Guests heard speeches from Richard Burden MP, chair of the All-Party
Parliamentary Motor Group, Ron Dennis CBE, executive chairman of McLaren Group and McLaren Automotive, and SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt.
Justin Tomlinson MP: “I was delighted to attend a reception for the SMMT in the House of Commons and meet young apprentices from Honda UK.
"I am a big supporter of apprenticeships as these not only offer an opportunity to build up real-life applied skills but it gives a real chance of securing long-term employment.”
As part of Conservative plans to see Council Tax frozen, the government is bringing forward a number of measures to help make this possible.
