Local MP at prestigious Breakthrough Breast Cancer Parliamentary Reception

Justin Tomlinson, local MP for North Swindon has pledged to support 5 key actions which will aid the fight against breast cancer, at Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s recent Annual Parliamentary Reception.

During the reception at the Houses of Parliament, MP Justin Tomlinson committed to support Breakthrough Breast Cancer in its work to deliver better outcomes for people with breast cancer and create a future free from the fear the disease by:

• Supporting Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Touch, Look, Check breast awareness campaign
• Safeguarding NHS screening services, ensuring efficient and cost-effective digital mammography
• Tackling the current age inequalities regarding treatment of women with breast cancer and protecting the funding for the age extension breast screening programme
• Defending the crucial work of breast cancer nurses and to keep funding these vital posts on a local level
• Protecting funding for the CharityResearch Support Fund (CRSF)

Justin Tomlinson, local MP for North Swindon said, “I am delighted to have attended the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Parliamentary Reception, and I am committed to keeping breast cancer high on the political agenda in this parliament. 46,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK, and one in nine women will develop the disease at some point in their lifetime.  I am looking forward to working with my local campaigners and taking action to help in any way possible in the fight against this disease.”

Over 80MPs and Peers attended the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Parliamentary Reception, the first of it’s kind since the General Election, enabling the charity to engage with the new intake of MPs and highlight the importance of Breakthrough’s vital research, campaigning and education work.
